Sophomore Composition is a one-year foundation course that helps students advance their writing skills, and prepares them for college writing. For this semester (second semester), we will focus on argumentative essays, before we turn to writing a short research paper. |

課程要求 |
＊This course will be conducted in both English and Mandarin.
Students are responsible for submitting their work on time. Due dates for writing assignment are announced in class and also provided on NTU COOL website. This means that assignments are due on those days.
However, I recognise that sometimes laptops/computers can go on strike. In these instances, please email your assignment directly to me 24 hours of the due date. Please note that in this case, your work will only be eligible for 80% of the maximum number of points.
Assignments submitted more than 24 hours after the due date will not be accepted, unless reasonable excuse is provided beforehand (for sick leave, official medical report should be presented). You will not receive a grade/ comments for this assignment.

Due to the nature of this course, students are expected to attend all classes unless they have a reasonable excuse for their absence.
Students are expected to participate actively in in-class activities. Students are also given the opportunity to review and edit their own and other’s written work in class. |

Writing assignments |
20% |
Students are expected to participate actively in writing activities (both in-class and take-home assignments).Always remember to submit assignments on time. Please refer to Late/Make-up policy for more details. |

Final research paper |
40% |
Students are expected to submit one short research paper. |
4. |
Individual conferences |
10% |
Individual conferences will also be held in class throughout the semester.These are designed to give students the opportunity to discuss their own writing with the instructor individually.
Each student needs to register a time slot a week before individual conference and show up on time! More information will be provided in class. |
